Resolve Dog Aggression Problems Early

A Rottweiler can be trained to be a very lovable dog with loads of energy and an amiable, fun-loving nature; however, the breed has the inherent quality of being a big-game hunter. At the core of its true nature lies the tendency to be overly aggressive at times, especially if it feels threatened.

The inherent nature stays with the dog and worsens, if the dog does not learn how to get along with other dogs and humans as a puppy.

Signs are evident when you see them overreacting to particular situations, attacking people or other pets brought to the home, and getting easily disturbed. This is not a common trait among Rottweilers; however, they may display such behavior and owners must be aware of it at all times.

To avoid Rottweiler problems related to aggression, acclimatize your puppy to social behavior as a puppy and then assume a strong alpha role in the home to make the dog understand you are the leader. Demonstrate leadership in a way that the puppy follows your lead or command and responds to it positively.

It will indicate to them that they have nothing to worry about when you are there in the house and that there is no need to be aggressive, as you would effectively handle any situation that arises.

Dealing With Prey Drive

You must not overlook a potential problem that exists due to hunting instincts in the Rottweiler, and that is their drive to attack and kill other animals they see as food. It can be small squirrels or cats in the neighborhood.

While your pet is outdoors, it is advisable to keep it on a leash and to properly introduce it to your new cat while still young. You will face severe Rottweiler problems, if your dog’s prey drive takes over, and it starts thinking of your neighbor’s pets as food.

If You Feel sorry About Leaving Your Dog Behind, Don’t Show It

Separation anxiety is another major problem that Rottweilers can easily succumb to. They tend to grow very anxious and will show it, more so when you are about to leave or enter the house and make the mistake of paying too much attention trying to dispel their fears.

The dog may start barking and then physically hurt itself when you are not around. Rottweilers may scratch their paws, pull their own hair, make a mess around the house, or even break their teeth in anxiety.

For varied reasons, this can be a huge problem, and the quiet and calm of your home is at risk here. If you face Rottweiler problems like anxiety, train your dog to be independent and routinely pay as little attention to it while leaving or returning to the house.

Also, all your family members have to be aware of how to deal with the situation. Just one member greeting the dog can bring about anxiety.

Other Mental And Emotional Disorders

Rottweilers tend to display mental and emotional disorders besides separation anxiety over several other matters like scratching, faint sounds, eating, digging, and other common behaviors. Just keep finding things for the dog to do and make them exercise a lot.

About one to two hours of exercise is needed to keep a Rottweiler occupied.

If you are too busy to spend time with your dog during the first couple of years after bringing it home, give serious thought to changing your pet for another breed that does not demand attention.

You could also think of getting another dog as company for your Rottweiler and devote a minimum of two to three hours daily, however busy you are.

Rottweiler problems are usually the same that are found in other dogs; however, they may grow into huge problems unless resolved early. Spend quality time with your pet, resolve familiar tendencies of aggression, and establish a bond early. It will keep your dog happy and healthy for as long as it lives.
