Rottweiler Training

Rottweilers have been adopted by German nobility since the 1600s, and Rottweiler training methods used at the time were mainly to prepare them for hunting and sport.

The inherent breeding has enabled the dog to have a strong personality, a keen sense of smell, and a very energetic and playful behavior.

Nevertheless, you may have a harrowing experience trying to control your dog and impart the basics of obedience.

Basic Requirements Of Rottweilers

You must realize that the dog has very high energy levels before you even start Rottweiler training. The dog weighs as much as 80 pounds on an average, has a life span of nearly 12 years, and will have to be taken for regular lengthy walks at least twice daily in order to keep it in peak physical and mental condition.

In other words, the breed needs attention, activities that will tire it, and its own space to be content.

Most dog owners do not consider it a problem; however, some may find it a harrowing experience and would think a less energetic dog is a better option.

Those who are keen on keeping the “grey ghost” in the house, they are privileged to find a great watchdog which has tremendous tolerance towards other people, animals, and generally responds well to positive attention.

Elementary Rottweiler Training Techniques

Rottweilers have been traditionally bred to take part in big game hunting involving deer, bears, and boar among other animals. In other words, the dog will demonstrate aggressive tendencies unless they are trained properly while still a puppy.

The best way to proceed is to channelize its aggressive behavior in a way that will protect your home and yourself. At the same time, it should not endanger other members of the household. You must note that Rottweilers rarely display open aggression towards human beings.

A practical Rottweiler training technique exists, if you are really keen on keeping our Rottweiler at home, and that is to become the alpha leader of the home and make your Rottweiler understand it from a very early age.

Other than aggression issues, Rottweilers may demonstrate symptoms of separation anxiety at a very young age which may only aggravate in time making it very difficult to rectify the problem.

On becoming a strong alpha leader in the eyes of your dog, it diminishes the pangs of reuniting with you. Also, when the dog is still very young, ensure that you do not give the dog too much attention just before or after leaving the home. They will take this as support for its neurotic behavioral trait.

Socialization is a must when it concerns Rottweilers. Ensure that your dog has quality time not only with you but with the dogs as well from the time it is a puppy. Other pets such as rabbits or cats need to be introduced to your dog quite early as well, as the process will make them understand they are not prey but part of the household.

Finding Daily Solutions For Common Issues

Inherent common problems with Rottweilers include giving in to anxiety and its excessive energy levels. The issues can be rectified completely with watchful obedience training, plenty of regular exercise, and establishing a strong alpha leader position in the home.

Rottweiler training, you can say, defends mostly on these three parameters. The moment you neglect your dog by not spending quality time with it the house, a Rottweiler is likely to develop long-term unwanted behavioral traits.

You will find that training will definitely demand a lot of your energy and time when the dog is still a puppy. It will need you to spend some time with it at the start extending to a few weeks. You must expect it to demonstrate a great deal of anxiousness and energy.

However, consistency is the key. Develop a firm but fair attitude. Establish and set up well-defined and steady regulations in the home. The result of proper Rottweiler training is a protective, strong family pet that will not present any problems at all.
